For years, BE CLEVER has been committed to utilizing local resources and trying to draw attention to materials which can be re-used and recycled. Nowadays, it is looking into the recycling of plastic bottles, with the help of local women and youth groups willing to learn a new trade while earning a living at the same time as providing a meaningful way to reduce the amount of polluting materials.
Our new project - which today includes the H2O and TOTO/MAMA collections - is inspired by the search and gathering of different types of plastic bottles, starting from plain water bottles all the way to shampoo bottles in their vast assortment of colors.
To complete and assemble our products we utilize plastic bags worked in crochet patterns and fishing net nylon thread, hand dyed at our workshop.
The H2O collection includes two types of bags - small and large - in blue, green, red and translucent, made up of thousands of tiny discs. In the same collection there are two large bowls, one plate and two vases... made with the top part of the water bottles. Caps
and taps from the bottles are used to make flexible lamps which can be either hung or placed on the floor (DIAMONDS and RINGS models).
The TOTO/MAMA collection was created from the desire to adorn girls with bracelets and necklaces, at the same time as wanting to focus our attention on women: a vibrant collection and one more subdued, both made with lightweight materials and sold in special packaging designed to complement and embellish the product.
